This paper theoretically examines the initial stage of development of a coal-methane well, when the pressure in the well is higher than the pressure at the beginning of methane desorption. This stage can be relatively simply and reliably modeled using a numerical solution of the transport equation. Numerical analysis of the pressure field in a coal seam is carried out taking into account changes in fractured porosity and permeability of the formation with decreasing pressure. In combination with field data on water pressure and flow rate obtained at the initial stage of well development, numerical modeling can clarify the properties of a coal reservoir and select the optimal strategy for further development of the well.
